Huck Finn and Jim

Jim is portrayed as Huck friend and they prank each other and Jim tells Huck his fortune. Huck sees Jim as a friend and when he sees him in the woods he gets really happy that it was Jim because he has a familiar relationship with him. Huck is always told that slavery is OK, but with his bond with Jim he starts seeing slavery in another perspective. Jim is portrayed in the Disneymovie as the fortune teller who tell Huck and advice to stay away from his father. He is very kind to Huck and gave him god advice mostly because he likes Huck. Jim in this next clip of a the online movie is shown as a family man who loved his wife but had to leave. He is shown as sympathetic and kind. In the VCR movie Jim is shown as nice black man that helps Huck but he isn't as nice as the movies before and is shown as kind of taking advantage of Huck by getting his money.

Journal 4

Pap is uneducated and is pissed that he can't get Huck's money. He gives a drunken speech about the government and how the people that are running it are uneducated and stupid. This speech is very ironic because pap is a very uneducated person who was drunk at the moment, but he was complaining about the government and how the leaders are stupid. This speech in the book gave us a look at how the people were thinking back then and how most of the poor whits were not educated, but still criticized the government for making stupid decisions. I think this is the writers way of making fun of the mentality of the poor whits who criticized government.

Journal 3

Pap is very angry at his son for knowing how to read and speak properly. In chapter 5 pap asks Huck to read and once he had read properly pap gets mad that Huck knows how to read unlike him. Pap grew up in an environment where no one learned how to read and if you did know how to read you were most likely a snob. Pap can't be happy for his son because he is so caught up in the chances he never had. Huck seems not offended but i can imagine he is hurt that his dad doesn't want him to become anything or be a better man than he is.

satire in shrek 2

In the first clip I saw a lot of exaggeration of how the fairy god mother was trying to convince her of wanting so many things. I saw reversal through out the clips because it is changing for one perspective to another. They did and parody that exaggerated a song and added special effects and lots more for a comic effect. The incongruity was when the ginger bread man turned really large because it came out of know where.

Journal 2

Huck has a hard time excepting the religion the widow tries to convince him off. He finds it hypocritical that the religious people are enforcing slavery and they are living a comfortable life. The widow is trying to make Huck pray and Huck is wondering if he is even spiritual enough to pray. Huck is convinced that religion is not for him because he doesn't agree with slavery and he thinks he is not spiritual enough. He also thinks that praying is only good for the rich and that no proper people like him can pray.

Favorite Quote-
seconds count when something is trying to kill yo
oh but I'm talking about suicide
to survive my ancestors had to
put up with more than I ever could

Favorite picture- I like the picture of the hour glass and the world inside of it and also Dana in it with closed eyes it is a very nice picture.

Quote- "Seconds count when something is trying to kill you." Dana says this because when she thinks she is being shot she felt like it took forever because her life was on the line.

I thing that the conflict is going to be between Dana and the little boy because the little bot might grow up to be racist like his father or Dana might try to change his views.

Slavery changed America by making the American people rely on slave labor for their daily routines. Also by giving other races the supposed rite to feel like they are better than the black slaves making the slaves 3/5 of a person. We still see this view of superiority in our society by racism and a way of thought that will take awhile to change.

Journal 1

Bob and Huck's mischievousness comes from their curiosity. Their curiosity is dangerous and exciting, and it will lead to them gaining knowledge. Unlike Huck Jim isn't as curious because he has more to lose. For Jim, imagination is a playground he can't leave; Huck is free to frolic in the danger and thrills of the adventure.

Satire

Satire is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary. The Simpsons has the satire that the education is bad in lisa's school to exaggerate the bad education the janitor is making a lot of noise when lisa is trying to study.

Dear Ranbir,

I would like to persuade the readers to focus on education and the demand for more supplies and better teaching conditions.

The greatest obstacles to this happening seem to be the fact that education is the last priority on the governments agenda.

I am also worried about the future generation and how they will be effected by the decisions we make today.

What do you think of Education today?

Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,

Transcendentalism song

Fire works by Katy Perry

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting throught the wind
Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel already buried deep
Six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that tehre's still a chance for you
Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gunna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road
Katy Perry Firework lyrics found on http://www.directlyrics.com/katy-perry-firework-lyrics.html

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on slet your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gunna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on slet your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gunna leave 'em goin "Oh, oh, oh!"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

Thoreau's Walden

Thoreau went to Walden see if transcendentalism is true and to test it he built a Little cabin and lived there. His life was simple and he lived in the woods loving nature and simplicity. Thoreau criticized the modern trains and such that were modern, he said we should walk, provide for our self and live self sufficiently. I disagree with Thoreau because we should move forward and live life depending on each other being too self sufficient can lead to failure.

This shows transcendental idea because it shows how the big hen is very different from the other hens he is not conforming but he is being his own person. All of the other hen are looking at him differently but he is still being different.

Annotated Bibliography

Sandra Nicholas,July 31, 2009,Education matters,
http://www.tellingthetruth.com/education_matters/

There is an emergency in our California public schools, but the 1,000 "low-performing schools," including six in Santa Cruz County, are not the problem. They are the symptom.

In its infinite wisdom, the California Board of Education has approved emergency regulations and deemed the 1,000 schools utter failures from which parents can rescue their kids via "open enrollment," transferring them to other schools. State board member Benjamin Austin commented, "The schools in this list are bad schools."

Mr. Austin, go to the schools on the list. See what's going on there. Then suggest a remedy to any problems you uncover. Don't just sit around and label schools you know little about as failures. Talk about living in an ivory tower and being the decider while Rome burns.

But wait! There will always be schools that are the lowest performers no matter how you rank them. The Obama administration, by requiring such a list for states seeking the elusive bucks, is dooming California to damn 1,000 schools every year.

Should parents pull students out of these schools? Perhaps. If a school is failing your child—yes. If a school is not safe for your child—yes. If a school does not respect your child as a student and a human being—yes. But I wouldn't switch schools based on a formula approved by those who know very little about what goes on in the classroom.

American Literary Periods

The colonial period is a time of Conservative life's where the people were Quakers and very religious while the romantics were free and very focused non conformity and also were essay writers. Transcendentalism characteristics is having different thinking and views and not conforming and also self reliance, spirituality, and a indwelling god. The historical context effected the literature because history has a lot to do with the writing by creating a setting of emotions and common situations.

Arthur Miller

Arthur Millers statement is agreeable because it is true that although we have limitless options we are still restricted in a sense that there are somethings that we simply won't be willing to do. The situation wont let us or we just aren't brave enough to make that decision. No one is restricting us but we might restrict ourselves.

Reflection

I have learned that American literature has a lot to do with the history of the time. The book all have a historic background that is used as a base for the story. They are different because they all have different histories and stories. I have learned that writing is a very freeing experience and i would like to learn how to write correctly.

Common Themes

1. government, standing, people, best

2. good, happening, friend

3. shot, heard, wake, neutralize, ignite

All of these words are talking about government and standing up to it in good attentions and rising to ignite a revolution of government. To change what we believe is wrong and wake up to have the best people as leaders.

www.slate.com

I think that most teens commit suicide because they feel like the situation that they are in is never going to change or they feel like they don't have much to like for. I know a couple of people that have attempted suicide and they told me that they felt like every thing was hopeless. It is most likely that a teen woulds commit suicide because teens don't really know the many opportunities in this world so the situation they are in now seems like its going to last forever. It's a sad situation because all you keep thinking is if the only knew the many opportunities life offers them.
